Are you looking for an impactful role to change public policy, attitudes and transform the lives of women impacted by the criminal justice system? Women in Prison are looking for a Policy and Research Officer to lead our work on building the evidence we need to transform the criminal justice system and end the harm of prison to women, families and communities.

You will apply your excellent analytical and communication skills to lead on research to develop policy positions and outputs in order to influence legislation and practice. In a highly collaborative role, you will work closely with frontline staff and the women WIP supports to ensure their lived experience is the foundation of our policy proposals. The role will also build relationships with WIP’s sector partners, agencies, policymakers, think tanks and other stakeholders to strengthen our case for changing policy and practice relating to women affected by the criminal justice system.

We’re also looking for a quick learner. We don’t expect you to know or have done everything when you start – instead, with support from your manager, we’ll be looking for you to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly, then run with them.

We actively encourage applications from women from a variety of backgrounds, and with a range of skills and experiences. We are particularly interested to hear from Black, Asian and minoritised women and women who have personal experience of the criminal justice system. The role is only open to women, in accordance with the sex-based exemptions of the Equality Act 2010 pursuant to Schedule 9, Part 1.
