Location:              Home-based and London

Hours:                   Full-time (35 hours per week), with some evening work and travel required*

                              * The RSB currently offers a four-day working week (32 hours), which is non-contractual and reviewed annually

Our members study, work and research in fields that encompass humans, animals, plants, fungi, microorganisms, ecosystems and the molecular mechanisms of life. This exciting new role will sit within the External Affairs department and line manage two direct reports. You will lead the RSB’s strategic communications, branding and stakeholder engagement activities, in order to advance its mission, grow its influence with key audiences, enhance its resonance with members and potential members, and strengthen its reputation. You will also champion consistent, impactful communication across digital and social media and the press, fostering trust among stakeholders and shaping and delivering compelling narratives about the biosciences and the RSB’s work.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in leading a communications function in the charity, research or science sector.
  • Strong experience in media relations, including managing press enquiries and securing high-impact coverage.
  • Experience in overseeing digital communications, marketing, branding and content production.
  • The ability to translate complex scientific or technical information for non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience in managing and developing high-performing teams, with a collaborative and supportive leadership style.
